The untamed Argentinian Patagonia

At the edge of the world, where the Andes surrender to the wind-swept plains and ancient ice shapes the land, lies Patagonia: a vast and untamed region that defies expectations. Split between Argentina and Chile, this southern frontier is home to some of the most dramatic and remote landscapes on Earth: jagged peaks, endless steppes, glacial lakes in impossible shades of blue, and massive ice fields that creak and crack with life. It is a land of silence and spectacle, where nature speaks louder than words.

In the heart of Argentine Patagonia, the small town of El Calafate serves as the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that protects over 7,000 km² of raw wilderness. This region is best known for the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few glaciers in the world still advancing, and for the legendary Estancia Cristina, a historic ranch tucked deep in the Andes that offers access to secluded viewpoints and ancient ice. Exploring these places is not just a journey across distance, but across time, encompassing millennia of geological evolution and human resilience.

This itinerary was designed to immerse you in the spirit of Patagonia. From quiet moments in front of towering ice walls to the rugged adventure of off-road trails and glacial lookouts, each day invites you to witness something extraordinary. More than a trip, it is an invitation to reconnect with the elemental forces of nature — wind, rock, ice, and silence — in one of the last true wild places on the planet.

Day 2 | Glaciar Perito Moreno

Today’s adventure takes you deep into Los Glaciares National Park to witness one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders: the Perito Moreno Glacier. Traveling 80 km from El Calafate, the journey itself reveals the changing Patagonian landscape: from golden grasslands of coirón to the beech forests of the Andean-Patagonian region. Along the way, you might spot black-necked swans, upland geese, and other native birds.

Once at the glacier, you’ll explore a network of panoramic walkways that offer stunning perspectives of its towering ice walls, intricate crevasses, and the vivid blue hues that seem to glow from within. If you’re lucky, you’ll witness dramatic ice calvings — massive chunks breaking off and crashing into the lake below, a thunderous reminder of the glacier’s movement.

To complete the experience, you’ll embark on a one-hour boat navigation across the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino.

From the water, the southern face of the glacier reveals itself in full splendor: a nearly 60-meter wall of ice stretching almost 3 kilometers wide. It’s a humbling spectacle of nature’s power and beauty.

Day 3 | Estancia Cristina

Your day begins with a scenic catamaran ride from Punta Bandera, cruising across Lake Argentino through the Boca del Diablo and the Upsala Channel. As you glide past icebergs and mountain backdrops, you’ll reach the secluded Canal Cristina, where the historic Estancia Cristina awaits.

Upon arrival, a 4×4 vehicle will take you on a rugged ascent into the mountains, followed by a short walk to the Upsala Glacier Viewpoint — a privileged lookout offering sweeping views of the glacier, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, and the surrounding valleys.
