Wild beauty: Pantanal and Southern Amazon
The Pantanal, the world’s largest tropical wetland, is a sanctuary of unparalleled biodiversity. Spanning 250,000 square kilometers, it is home to over 90 species of reptiles, 120 mammals, around 300 species of fish, 600 bird species, and more than 1,000 butterfly species, according to WWF data. Unlike the dense forests of the Amazon, the Pantanal’s open landscapes offer unmatched opportunities to observe wildlife in its natural habitat.
This journey begins in the Cunhataí Porã Ecological Reserve, a 3,000-hectare sanctuary where the Amazon rainforest meets the Mato Grosso savannah. Carefully preserved by the de Cezaro family, the reserve is a haven for biodiversity, offering visitors the chance to explore pristine forests and encounter species such as tapirs, collared peccaries, and colorful toucans. It’s the perfect introduction to the unique ecosystems of Brazil.
Next, the adventure continues to the northern Pantanal, where Porto Jofre is renowned as one of the best places in the world to spot jaguars. Guests will have opportunities to observe these majestic big cats, alongside other iconic wildlife such as caimans, giant otters, capybaras, and an incredible variety of birds. The open waterways and expansive landscapes of this region provide a striking contrast to the dense vegetation of the Amazon.
This carefully curated journey highlights the extraordinary diversity of Brazil’s ecosystems — from the lush transition zones between rainforest and savannah to the vibrant wetlands of the Pantanal — offering a rare and unforgettable immersion into South America’s wildest frontiers.
